Autumn Jubilee – Sewing Project #1 from From My Carolina Home

Autumn Jubilee is underway and the projects will keep coming all month. Clear the decks, and get ready to have some fun. Today we have a sewing project that will showcase one of the beautiful Benartex Harvest Festival fabrics.

When I unpacked the fabulous Benartex fabrics that they sent for Autumn Jubilee, I saw this fabric with the edge to edge border print design. The first thing I thought of was an apron to take advantage of the fabulous border print. It’s the perfect project to kick off a month of projects featuring Mason jars to wear in the ...

Tablescapes for Autumn Jubilee from From My Carolina Home

This really is my favorite time of the year. I love the rich colors of Autumn, the gold and burgundy with rust and deep evergreen speak to me. This week, the color at our home reached its peak, with glorious golds and orange, rust and a little bit of deep red. The oaks and maples are showing brilliant red and orange, while the tulip poplars are right behind with a bright yellow gold.

Then, this stunning sweetgum in the back a little way up the mountain burst into brilliant orange in the morning sunlight a few days later. I’ll ...

Autumn Jubilee Quilt Along Finish from From My Carolina Home

Finishing the quilt along today, I loaded the top on the longarm for quilting.

I used a pumpkin patch pantograph called Meandering Pumpkins that is perfect for fall inspired quilting. It is designed by Patricia Ritter for Urban Elementz.

The cute pumpkin is surrounded by leaves and vines. The quilting is done with a medium brown Glide thread on top with Bottom Line in the bobbin.

So cute, and the quilting went well this time too.

I found another print that had enough yardage for the binding. I put the binding on the top by machine, then hand stitched it ...

Autumn Jubilee Sew Along – Finishing the Wall Hanging from From My Carolina Home

When we left off last Wednesday, the scrappy borders had been done, and next was doing the final quilting and finishing. I found a small piece of coordinating fabric for the back, with enough for binding too, and loaded the little quilt on the longarm. This project is small enough to easily do on a domestic machine, but I need practice with free motion on the longarm.

So, I did a meander around the scrappy blocks with a medium brown thread, then switched to a lighter ecru for the center meander.

I wasn’t really happy with the stitch quality ...

Autumn Jubilee Bonus Projects from From My Carolina Home

Autumn Jubilee just doesn’t have enough days for all the projects I have in mind, so today will be a bit of a hodgepodge of ideas and projects, and a tutorial. Sometimes just finding a wonderful seasonal item on sale brings a smile. This pumpkin welcome sign was just such a find, and now graces the front of our home every year.

As I was sewing the wool project and the sew-along project, I had a crazy idea. What if I put those two techniques together? Well, I did, and it was a fun project, a way to use ...

Autumn Jubilee – Oktoberfest and the Garden from From My Carolina Home

Autumn in this part of our beautiful country brings color to the trees, and lots of opportunities to drive curvy roads with friends. It also means the last of the garden harvest, and some clean up to do. October brings a fun day to have a bunch of German cars go on a drive and have an Oktoberfest! Settle in, friends, this one is long and picture heavy!

The colors are showing not only at our home’s view above, but also in the surrounding mountains. The car club met up early last weekend for a two hour drive, beginning ...

Autumn Jubilee Quilt Along – Assembly and Borders from From My Carolina Home

This week we finish the top for the Quilt Along. Last time I showed you several options for arrangements, and this week, I’ll show you how I did mine.

First, I lay out the squares and decided on the arrangement. Once I had this done, I looked carefully at the placement of the fabrics to minimize the same one being sewn next to each other. Oops, I have one turned the wrong way here.

Fixed that, then spotted a couple of blocks I wanted to turn around or move.

When I was done fiddling with the placement, I stacked ...

Autumn Jubilee Embroidery Sew Along from From My Carolina Home

The Sew Along continues today with the addition of borders to our little project. This will use up more of our scraps, and give you an idea for a larger project as well.

I have no end to Autumn inspired fabric scraps, LOL!! It is just a matter of choosing a bunch, then cutting 2-1/2-inch squares.

You’ll need 40 squares, 2-1/2-inches square. Sew them in line sets as follows –
Two sets of 3 squares
Four sets of 5 squares
Two sets of 7 squares

Then arrange the square sets around your embroidered center, with the sets of ...

Autumn Jubilee Wool Stitch Along Finish from From My Carolina Home

How are you doing with your wool cornucopia project? I have had fun doing this hand work project, and also delighted in the shares in our Facebook Friends group with some converting this idea into a raw edge applique project. You all are so creative, and I have really enjoyed seeing the projects in progress. Today we finish the stitch along, and I’ll give you two ways to complete your project.

We left off last week with all the embellishments finished. Now to decide if it will become a pillow or wall hanging.

I have two other wool pillows ...

Autumn Jubilee Quilt Along – Week 2 from From My Carolina Home

The big reveal is today, are you excited? We will put the squares and half-square triangles into blocks, and then I’ll give you several ways to put it together.

The elements you have cut and sewn will make 16 blocks, here is the block. It is a classic, traditional block called Road to Oklahoma.

I assembled my blocks using a web method first taught by Eleanor Burns. Begin with laying out the squares and HSTs on your work table.

Take the first two COLUMNS and lay the second column square over the first so that your edge to stitch ...

Autumn Jubilee Embroidery Sew Along from From My Carolina Home

So many sewing artists have embroidery capability now, so let’s put that to use in a sew along! If you don’t have embroidery on your machine, don’t fret, you can just find a cute motif on some of your stash fabric to fussy cut for this step. Or you could do a quick hand embroidery for this step. For those with machine embroidery capability, get out your stabilizers and pretty autumn threads. I’ll give you the overall idea, and you can use what you have to finish as you like.

I loaded my embroidery hoop with ...

Autumn Jubilee Wool Stitch Along – Week 2 from From My Carolina Home

This week we will embellish the cornucopia Wool Stitch Along piece using floss and beads. You can add whatever you like, embellish as much or as little as suits your fancy. I use DMC floss for the leaf accents, cornucopia details and pumpkin lines. I mentioned last time that I like Aurifil’s wool thread for doing the applique stitching, and you can also use it for the accent lines.

Starting with the cornucopia, I mark lines using a Chaco Marker. It makes thin chalk lines that easily brush away.

Then, stitch along those lines using a back stitch.

Mark ...

Autumn Jubilee Quilt Along Begins! from From My Carolina Home

I think the quilt-along part of Autumn Jubilee is the part quilting readers look forward to the most. Seeing another fun pattern in Autumn colors puts us in the mood for the holidays to come, celebrating the fall season with Thanksgiving on the way. This year, I am doing a traditional block in Autumn colors, rather than do pumpkins and leaves again. But if you are in the mood for those, you can go back to last year’s Autumn Jubilee for a fun table topper pattern, shown in the top of the button for this year.

This is probably ...

Books for Autumn Jubilee from From My Carolina Home

Reading fiction, and playing with project books is fun when the weather turns chilly. Cooler days mean wearing cozy sweaters, bowls of hot soup, a crackling fire, and a good book. I like reading fiction books set in the fall season at this time. It is also a good time to look at project books and plan something fun for the holidays or gifts. For Autumn Jubilee this year, I have two recent reads that you will enjoy. Then, I’ll show you some of my bookshelf and maybe give you an idea or two to learn something new.

Autumn Jubilee Wool Stitch Along Begins from From My Carolina Home

Here we go!! Today we begin with the wool stitch along project. I have designed a pattern for you that will be appropriate for not only early fall, but will carry all the way through to Thanksgiving.

I do hope you like the design of a overflowing cornucopia! We will work the wool design on a 12-inch base, then embellish it, and finish in your choice of a pillow or wall hanging. You’ll need a 12-inch square of wool in a base color, and scraps of fall inspired colors for the fruits and vegetables. The design will do well ...
